Going into 1968, the Chevelle® was considered AmericaÈs "Most Popular Mid-Sized" car. The SS 396 was the high performance model and had a base price of $2,899. The top of the line 396 c.i. engine was rated at 396 horsepower. Over 60,000 cars were produced in 1968, in a wide range of models from convertible to station wagon.
